SMP - Scalp Micropigmentation
MicroCanvas SMP is a Scalp Micropigmentation company based in Vancouver, Washington, located just outside the vibrant city of Portland, and only 15 minutes from the Portland International Airport.
We provide a convenient, non-surgical and 100% effective hair loss solution to both men and women suffering from balding, receding hairlines, thinning hair, hair transplant scars, and alopecia.
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical procedure that treats hair loss. The procedure involves using a micro-needle and ink to implant pigment into the scalp replicating the natural hair follicles or micro hair. It is a highly advanced form of pigmentation technique replicating the appearance of a new hairline and thicker hair. Our incredibly realistic and specialized treatment takes on average 2~3 sessions spread over a few weeks and each session can take approximately 1-4 hours.
Roy is passionate about helping people regain their confidence by applying cutting-edge technology and artistry. He has conducted a multitude of scalp micropigmentation treatments to achieve the finest and most authentic-looking results. He has not only mastered the Advanced 3D SMP technique layering different shades of pigment, but also refined his Art-SMP technique applying different types of curls for a stylish and unique look. Roy is committed to providing the best customer service and customer satisfaction.

The treatment consists of three sessions or more depending on the extent of your hair loss, each lasting approximately 2-4 hour usually spaced about 10-14 days apart. This process allows for a gradual build-up of density. We begin with a lighter color and slightly higher hairline in session 1, giving you time to adjust to your new hairline over the week. You can then make changes to the shape, height, color, and density in the following session.
Prior to commencing the treatment, our skilled artist will engage in consultations with you, offering tailored recommendations based on your individual requirements and desired outcomes.
In the first session, we start with a lighter color and a slightly higher hairline by applying a light layer of pigment to assess fading levels. This helps you get accustomed to your new hairline and allows for adjustments to the shape, color, and thickness in later sessions.
During the second session, further layers will be added atop the initial subtle scattering of scalp micropigmentation achieved in the first session.
After the final treatment, you'll receive detailed instructions for aftercare, providing comprehensive guidance to maximize the results of your new SMP. Following the SMP aftercare guidelines diligently is crucial for the long-lasting effects.
Because every client is different, the exact cost of any SMP procedure can vary. Our pricing depends on the amount, nature and severity of hair loss. We use the Norwood-Hamilton scale system that classifies and measures the extent of male pattern baldness. Prices start from as little as $300 per session for a Norwood-Hamilton scale stage 2 and $1,000 per session for a Norwood-Hamilton stage 7, which can require 2 or more sessions to achieve the desired results.
Please take a look at the seven stages of of hair loss on the Norwood Scale. Where do you measure on the scale?
Stage 1. No hair loss.
Stage 2. Slight receding hairline at the front of the head.
Stage 3. Further hair loss at the front resembling an M, U, or V shape.
Stage 4. Progressively receding hairline and light to moderate hair loss at the crown or vertex.
Stage 5. Severe receding hairline, large portion of hair loss at the crown.
Stage 6. The frontal and back balding areas merge into one and increase in size.
Stage 7. The most severe stage of hair loss, in which only a band of fine hair remains on the lower back of the head.
To give you an idea, a client who has a full head of hair with just a few slight balding areas and needs to make it look thicker may only pay total $800 - $1,500 whereas a client who is completely bald and wants a full scalp treatment plan may pay anywhere from $3000 - $4000. We always advise our clients to come in for a free consultation so our technician can provide the fairest estimate.
